Environmental Consultation

BASIX

The introduction of the New South Wales government's, Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) has effectively set new benchmarks for energy and water reduction in housing. BASIX is a planning tool which establishes minimum energy and potable water reduction targets for the design and development approval of new residential developments. This certificate lists all the commitments the Builder has agreed to, and the Certifying Authority will check these at various stages of construction. The BASIX Certificate must be attached to the development application before it can be processed. Makki Constructions can take care of the application process on your behalf.

Besides Government requirements, Makki Constructions believes and practices good Environmentally Sensitive Design (ESD). This begins with proper attention to environmental aspects of our development including topography, orientation, ambient conditions, sun control, insulation and ventilation. However, if you have an existing dwelling, it’s likely that there are measures you could, or should take to improve its efficiency, reduce its environmental impact and save money!

Consultation for existing dwellings

Makki Constructions can assist you to understand the benefits of this energy efficiency. We will assess your existing property and provide a fully customised and itemised report containing information and recommendations on how you can improve the efficiency of your dwelling.

This will enable you to make an informed decision about actions to reduce energy consumption and to adopt energy saving actions. Unlike most other environmental consultants, we can follow up our recommendations with design, constructions and fit-out. No matter how unique or challenging, we can assist.

Our environmental report assesses and makes recommendations on the following:

  • Rainwater tanks and recycling
  • Interior Design including water- and energy-efficient fittings and fixtures
  • Improved insulation
  • Passive solar orientation
  • Solar heating
  • Natural lighting
  • Alternate Energy Design
  • Energy-efficient ducted air-conditioning
  • Functional and energy-efficient light fittings
  • Urban ‘green-roof’ tops, landscaping and native plants for gardens
